Ban’s residential work is distinct—he typically designs open, airy spaces that deftly negotiate the relationship between indoors and out. Ban’s Curtain Wall House in Tokyo, one of his most lauded works, challenges the very necessity of walls, replacing them with enormous sliding curtains that form the façade. He continued his exploration of the indoor-outdoor relationship with the Wall-Less House. Free of walls, the entire space is open to the elements, becoming part of the hillside.
