The Facade

The neoclassical façade of 67 Franklin Street is unusually complex, with its wide windows and ornate columns, pilasters, and cornices. Highly inventive abstractions of floral forms adorn the façade, creating an intriguing progression from one story to the next. In adapting this building for modern living, visionary architect Shigeru Ban faced a significant challenge: to remake a landmark in his singular style, while preserving its historic detailing. Ban’s groundbreaking design juxtaposes the old with the new to stunning effect.
